What Can One Teen Do?

Mimi’s Mini Devotionals

My dear grandchild,

Today’s message is a heavy one. It is heavy with hurt and it’s heavy with hope. There is a teen today much the same age as you are who brought about a huge change in the world. A few days ago he was attending school. Surfing the net. Posting instagrams. He was being a teen.  But today his world is much different. He sits behind some heavy metal bars as he awaits a trial for an unthinkable crime. A crime that took the life of many people and changed the world for many people.

We all ask the question. WHY? We think if we know the WHY we can accept it, explain it away or make some sense out of it.

A better question to ask is. HOW? How do we handle the hurt? HOW do we go forward without fear? HOW do we forgive? The answer to all of these is JESUS.

You are young and this may be one of your first times to hear of such a tragedy as this. Especially so close to home and by someone of your age. A peer. But this is not God’s first time.

One of the most powerful men in the Bible who did more work bringing people to know God and Jesus was Paul.  Paul was a person who committed many crimes in his life prior to becoming the world’s best missionary. In Paul’s day, he was would have easily been called a terrorist. But today because of JESUS, His Hope, His mercy and His grace, Paul’s transformed life and words in the Bible give a hurting world the hope we need to cope with the evil that happens around us.

Jesus came to Paul in his sin. Jesus comes to us in our sin. Jesus replaced Paul’s fears with hope and faith. Jesus will do the same for you and the same for the boy behind the bars. Jesus forgave Paul and used him for good things. Jesus can do the same for us and the boy.

One last question to ask?  WHAT? What am I to do?  You may be thinking, Mimi, I am just one teen, WHAT can I do? The answer. PRAY.

PRAY for that young man behind bars. He is lost. He is hurting. He needs Jesus.

PRAY for the hurting families with such great loss. They need Jesus and His comfort.

PRAY for God to bring peace to you, to the schools and to the world. Jesus is the Prince of Peace.

PRAY for others to know and trust in Jesus.

“When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father,” (Ephesians‬ ‭3:14‬ ‭NLT‬).

Just as a teen brought fear and death into our world, a teen with Jesus in their heart can bring peace and life to our world. Be that teen. Pray and share Jesus with others.

“As soon as I pray, you answer me; you encourage me by giving me strength” (Psalms‬ ‭138:3‬ ‭NLT‬‬).

‭‬Mimi is praying for you and all the teens around the world to be bold for Christ and to go forward without fears, instead with strength and faith.

I love you to the moon and back, Mimi
