Going for the Gold

Mimi’s Mini Devotionals

Millions of people around the world have been watching as highly trained and very disciplined men and women go for the gold in the Winter Olympics.

The Olympics is a time for these athletes to show their abilities, their strength, their endurance and hopefully be rewarded for all their long hours of training. Driving their dedication, their countless hours of practice, healthy lifestyle choices and sacrifices is that medal of gold to be placed over their head and rest on their heart. Everything these athletes do is done to please the judges and receive the gold.

As Christians, we too should be like these dedicated athletes as we train and run the races in life that God puts before us. We must be dedicated to the Gold. For the Christian, Going for the Gold is going for God. Going for the Gold is going after God’s words. Going for the Gold is to please God by going His ways and on His paths

We are no different than those athletes when it comes to how we attain the Gold.

We must practice daily. Be in God’s word every day. Know and Obey His Commands.

We must make healthy lifestyle choices. What we eat, drink, say and do must be according to Gods ways. We must say “NO” to the things that hurt our bodies. Junk food. Alcohol. Drugs. Cigarettes.

We must make sacrifices. There will be distractions that we must turn away from in order to have more time for God. Television. Phones. Games. The wrong group of friends. Tough choices.

We must do everything with the goal of pleasing God. For He is our ultimate judge.

If you were to ask any one of those Olympians that were performing if they could have done all that they needed to do by themselves, they would tell you “NO WAY”. We had a coach by our side the entire time. He kept me on track. He taught me how to do what I needed to do to win the gold. He disciplined me. He encouraged me. He helped me to grow.

As Christians we have an even better coach. We have the Holy Spirit living within us 100% of time. He is there to keep us on track. Encourage us. Help us to make good choices. He will guide us to what is needed. And He helps us grow closer to God.

Today and everyday give God thanks for giving us Jesus. By his sacrifice on the Cross we now have the best coach ever living in our heart.
Ask God to help you listen to and follow this coach each and every day.

Mimi loves you and hopes you know that you are as special to me as that gold medal is to all the Olympian winners.??

From the word of God:

“But he knows where I am going. And when he tests me, I will come out as pure as gold. For I have stayed on God’s paths; I have followed his ways and not turned aside. I have not departed from his commands, but have treasured his words more than daily food” – Job‬ 23:10-12‬ NLT‬‬.

“Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold” – Proverbs‬ 8:10‬ NIV‬‬.

“And the words of the LORD are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times” – Psalm‬ 12:6‬ NIV‬‬.
