Five Rocks, a Sack Lunch and Two Young Boys

Mimi’s Mini Devotionals

Did you know that many heroic and mighty things were done in the Bible by young people such as yourself.  Yes, that right God calls and uses young people to do mighty things for Him.

We all have met David in the Bible and know the story about how he used five small stones to kill the giant Goliath. What you may not know is that he was just a young boy who went up against this huge warrior with tons of armor and shields. This giant had caused much fear in all the people and had threatened to kill them all.  No one would stand up this oversized bully.

UNTIL, a young Shepard boy named David who loved God and trusted God brought his sling shot and five stones to take the giant down. You see David trusted in the promises that God would go before him and God would protect him. David was a boy who had used his sling shot over and over and do little things like saving his sheep, but when God got involved David did a mighty thing like saving a nation of people.

“As the Philistine (the giant )moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown on the ground.”
‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭17:48-49‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Another example of Jesus using a young person was when a very poor little boy was beside a sea shore with a small lunch sack. In it was five small rolls and two tiny fish.  The fish were probably about the size of those minnows we use at the pond.  The little poor boy gave his sack lunch to the Lord. Jesus took that small lunch, blessed it and turned it into enough food to feed over 5000 people. And there were many baskets of leftovers.

“Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?”
‭‭John‬ ‭6:9‬ ‭NIV‬‬
“So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.”
‭‭John‬ ‭6:13‬ ‭NIV‬‬
